How Much Gets Spent On Collecting
Overall collectors spend an average of $510.00 a year on their collections.

Passionate collectors spend the most, $813.00, followed by Acquisitives ($526.00),

Expressives ($394.00) Hobbyists ($391.00) and Occasionals ($263.00).

Although most collectors (73%) have spent $500.00 or less in the past year, 9% spent $501.00- $1,000.00 and 7% have spent more than $1,000.00.

Collectors should buy something that they like so that ownership gives them pleasure, and they should also select something that's well made. Making money on ornaments is tricky business at best.

Here is an example. Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments are highly collectible, but such huge numbers are made and the themes are so contemporary that in 100 years most will not retain the meaning and collectibles they have now.
