Halloween Business Booming

YouNewsTV™ Story Published: Oct 2, 2007 at 8:38 PM CDT Story Updated: Oct 2, 2007 at 11:03 PM CDT By WEEK Producer Watch Video One Halloween store brought in 11–thousand–dollars in one day last week. News 25's Jenny Li shows us what consumers are spending their money on for All Hallows–Eve. Move over kids...more adults are choosing to celebrate Halloween... Lisa Bach said, "I dressed up last year, we get invited to parties every year. I'm not too into it but I guess I'm going to do it." If Bach, who's 'not too into it' is willing to shell out thirty–dollars for a costume, you can only imagine how much Halloween enthusiasts are spending at one of these temporary Halloween stores. Halloween store manager John Hessing said, "Last weekend was really hectic." And people aren't just dressing up for parties, they're getting costumes for work. Joel Rosenberger knew exactly what he was looking for when he walked in here. "I did, I've been looking on the internet and I've been looking around town locally. I have an idea in my head of what I want. I'm looking for an 80's hair band type thing." People are also dressing up to go out. The Saturday before Halloween has become a huge night for downtown Peoria. Tracy Jackson of Sully's says they'll have quadruple the amount of business compared to a regular Saturday night. And to get a larger piece of that Halloween crowd, businesses start planning months in advance for the night. Jackson said, "When bars like ours have specials and mystery island giveaways and contest and we're getting the music involved and we're going to be showing Halloween movies on all our LCD screens. It's going to be really cool." Adults aren't just dressing up themselves, costumes for dogs and infants are gaining in popularity. Halloween store employee Missy Campos said, "Women who are pregnant who know they're going to have their babies before Halloween will come here in preparation for it." It's the one time of year you might want to be a jailbird...and if you're willing to fork over the cash for the outfit, businesses will be there to cater to your alter ego. According MSN–dot–com, Consumers spend more money...roughly 7–billion–dollars...on Halloween accessories and decorations than any other holiday except for Christmas.
